Suwannee River Crossing
A large group of program participants from the Key Training Center and volunteers running in the annual Run for the Money fundraiser walk together Thursday morning in the rain as they cross the bridge over the Suwannee River. The runners, many with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office and Citrus County Fire Services and their family members, are making the 180-mile trek from Tallahassee to raise awareness and dollars for those with developmental disabilities. The finale for the Run for the Money takes place this Saturday at noon at The Key Training Center in Lecanto. The celebration will welcome the runners back to Citrus County and will also include a telethon to raise funds for the Key.

The Key Training Center’s annual Run for the Money telethon raised a total of $246,350.11, surpassing last year’s total of $230,675, Key Training Center Executive Director Melissa Walker said Monday.

The Key Center raises the money to provide scholarships for clients who require its services.

“Truly we live in a community that is so giving and supporting of adults with disabilities,” Walker said via email. “The Key Training Center is so blessed with the community’s ongoing support and commitment in providing scholarships to 80 individual that are in need in our community.
