Welcoming Leadership Citrus to the Key

We were proud to welcome the Leadership Citrus Class of 2026 to the Key Training Center’s Lecanto campus on Aug. 13 for an inside look at the programs, people and services that make the Key such a special place.

Executive Director Melissa Walker began the visit by sharing our mission of helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities reach their God-given potential through opportunities that encourage growth, choice and independence — always with kindness, love, dignity and respect.

Throughout the afternoon, our team had the opportunity to share what that mission looks like every day. Residential Director Bryan Kantorcyzk welcomed the group to Contento Cottage and explained how our residential services provide a safe, supportive home for the people we serve. Theresa Flick, Director of Program Operations, and Barbara Branch, Director of Day Services, introduced the group to our Adult Day Training programs and some of the activities that keep our clients learning, growing and engaged.

Barbara also shared a project we’re especially excited about — volunteers are transforming one of our garden areas into a new butterfly garden, creating another peaceful outdoor space for our clients to enjoy.

The tour continued at Key Elder Care, where Manager Brandy Ward shared how the program supports adults who need specialized daytime care while also providing an important resource for their families and caregivers.

Of course, the best part of any visit to the Key is meeting the people who make this place what it is. There were plenty of conversations, introductions and smiles along the way — including one of DeRon Thomas’ trademark big smiles as he posed for a photo with Leadership Citrus participant Angel Vincent.

We are grateful to the Leadership Citrus Class of 2026 for spending part of their day with us, asking questions and learning more about our mission. Every opportunity to share the Key’s story helps build a stronger, more understanding and inclusive community for the individuals we are honored to serve.
